Best Bad Guys
So the other day my students wrote about what they would be if they were superheroes. They were asked to describe their enemies. Young L had the best: Bat Boy, Mummy Mama, and Vibrating Vampire. That last one is sheer terrifying.
They're drawing now while I introduce them to the magic of "The Final Countdown" by Europe.
They love it.

Corrupting children to the dark side is lots of fun.

Are you Gob Bluth?

No, Paul is GOB.
I just like to get REALLY PUMPED UP.

Well, I just had my first day with eighth graders and things went considerably differently.
The assignment was to write an essay on what kind of career you want and why.
My favorite response was the kid that wanted to own a gentleman's club.
The essay is nearly word for word what I would've written at that age, complete with "ha ha, suckas" tacked on the end.

When I taught middle school, none of my kids were clever enough to think of that.

2:38 PM
ha ha, sucka!
2:45 PM
Did he mean the Weekly World News' Bat Boy?
6:02 PM
Joe, you should ask them to draw the villains. I can picture the Vibrating Vampire - kind of like Alex Ross' Flash.
In the 60s,kids used to submit pictures and descriptions of heroes and monster to Gold Key comics - they are pretty funny.

Mapletree, a girl did this. And, no, I don't think she meant that Bat Boy.
3:35 PM
Please post the gentleman's club essay. That sounds awesome.
